Flu vaccine for children

In the autumn/winter of 2014/15 the annual nasal spray flu vaccine will be available for children aged two, three and four years old as part of the NHS childhood vaccination programme.

The vaccine will be offered routinely to all children aged two, three and four on September 1 2014. That is, children with a date of birth on or after September 2 2009 and on or before September 1 2012.

NHS Scarlet Fever Symptoms

You may have read that there are currently an unusually high number of incidents of Scarlet Fever. It generally only affects children between the ages of 2 and 8 and symptoms include a high temperature and sore throat, sometimes accompanied by vomiting. The child then develops a bright red, sandpapery, rash on their torso and their tongue becomes swollen. A quick trip to the doctor and some penicillin sorts it all out but as it is a notifiable disease (and highly contagious) we would appreciate it if you could let us know if your child has recently suffered/is suffering from it. For more information, please have a look at the NHS Website.
